The Victorian Poets
O Love, Love, Love! O withering might!O sun, that from thy noonday heightShudderest when I strain my sight,Throbbing thro' all thy heat and light.
This poem i think he wrote it because he was lonely and was trying to find love thats all i understand about it.
Robert Browning:Meeting at night
THE gray sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, through its joys and fears,
What i think he was trying to say when he wrote this was that at nigth alot of things go on.And how pretty it is if we could just reconginize it.I also think he worte this because during the time most poeple worked really hard and didnt have no time for themselves till they got off of work.
Matthew Arnold :
Shakespeare
Others abide our question. Thou art free.We ask and ask: Thou smilest and art still,Out-topping knowledge. For the loftiest hill,That to the stars uncrowns his majesty,Planting his steadfast footsteps in the sea,Making the Heaven of Heavens his dwelling-place,Spares but the cloudy border of his baseTo the foil'd searching of mortality:And thou, who didst the stars and sunbeams know,Self-school'd, self-scann'd, self-honour'd, self-secure,Didst walk on earth unguess'd at. Better so!All pains the immortal spirit must endure,All weakness that impairs, all griefs that bow,Find their sole voice in that victorious brow.
He wrote this and was imatating shakespeare and writeing like him.I geuss that he wanted to show shakespeare that he admirer him.He talks alot about natrue in this poem too.He talks about heaven and earth.
Thomas Hardy:She at his Funeral
THEY bear him to his resting-place--
In slow procession sweeping by;
I follow at a stranger’s space;
His kindred they, his sweetheart I.
Unchanged my gown of garish dye,
Though sable-sad is their attire;
But they stand round with griefless eye,
Whilst my regret consumes like fire!
I think he is trying to talk about a girl and how she feel being at a funeral of somebody she killed and how she regret it.And just how being at funerals feel period .How you wish you could of spent more time with the person and everything about being at a funeral.
The Victorian Period
The biggest diffrence in the Victorian period and the Romantic Period was that the Romantic period had alot more depression and things was a lot more hard trying to survive.The Victorian period people was finding jobs and making more money and finding ways to survive.More oppurtunitys were given to people during the Victorian period because time was more peaceful and more jobs was availble.Not saying that the Victorian period didnt have troble they just didnt have as much troble as the Romantic period.
What most poets at this time was trying to do at this time is express what they was thinking about.The poets became more earthly trying to find out or display what they know about the earth.Poets knew more about life then to because everything was comeing more understanding.People stared to understand where humans came from and learn more about earth and the living thing on it.

Romantic poets
LEEP, sleep, beauty bright,
Dreaming in the joys of night;
Sleep, sleep; in thy sleep
Little sorrows sit and weep.
Sweet babe, in thy face
Soft desires I can trace,
Secret joys and secret smiles,
Little pretty infant wiles.
As thy softest limbs I feel,
Smiles as of the morning steal
O'er thy cheek, and o'er thy breast
Where thy little heart doth rest.
O the cunning wiles that creep
In thy little heart asleep!
When thy little heart doth wake,
Then the dreadful night shall break.
Well the poem is talking about a Little child sleeping in the cradle and how pretty it is when it sleep but when the child wake up thing wont be as peaceful . And while its sleeping you can see that its dreaming Because it smiling and laughing.I think he was thinking about the nature of infants and how they sleep.I think most people who like children can relate to this or people who are mothers.Being able to relate to people was important and he did that well.
William Wordsworth:SPEAK!
WHY art thou silent! Is thy love a plant
Of such weak fibre that the treacherous air
Of absence withers what was once so fair?
Is there no debt to pay, no boon to grant?
Yet have my thoughts for thee been vigilant--
Bound to thy service with unceasing care,
The mind's least generous wish a mendicant
For naught but what thy happiness could spare.
Speak -- though this soft warm heart, once free to hold
A thousand tender pleasures, thine and mine,
Be left more desolate, more dreary cold
Than a forsaken bird's-nest fill'd with snow
'Mid its own bush of leafless eglantine--
Speak, that my torturing doubts their end may know.
Well i think this poem was saying that don't be afraid to speak out on love.That if your are in love with somebody don't be afraid to tell them and talk about your feelings like most people are.Being shy is not always a good way to go. That when you don't always tell how you feel people could think that you don't care because you never said anything.You could leave people wondering and they feeling could end up drying up.
George Gordon:TO TIME
Time! on whose arbitrary wing The varying hours must flag or fly,Whose tardy winter, fleeting spring,But drag or drive us on to die---Hail thou! who on my birth bestowed Those boons to all that know thee known;Yet better I sustain thy load,For now I bear the weight alone.I would not one fond heart should share The bitter moments thou hast given;And pardon thee---since thou could st spare All that I loved, to peace or Heaven.To them be joy or rest---on me Thy future ills shall press in vain;I nothing owe but years to thee,A debt already paid in pain.Yet even that pain was some relief;It felt, but still forgot thy power: The active agony of grief Retards, but never counts the hour.In joy I've sighed to think thy flight Would soon subside from swift to slow;Thy cloud could overcast the light,But could not add a night to Woe;For then, however drear and dark,My soul was suited to thy sky;One star alone shot forth a spark To prove thee---not Eternity.That beam hath sunk---and now thou art blank---a thing to count and curse Through each dull tedious trifling part,Which all regret, yet all rehearse.One scene even thou canst not deform---The limit of thy sloth or speed When future wanderers bear the storm Which we shall
sleep too sound to heed.And I can smile to think how weak Thine efforts shortly shall be shown,When all the vengeance thou canst wreak Must fall upon---a nameless stone.
This is saying to me that time is something that we live for everyday but we don't know it and how people who are not that conscious don't count time like that.Like people with medical problem or mental problems just go on.That they don't pay as much attentions to it like consions people do.And that time is praisd to much.It relate to nature in a way because time has been here forever and it something that we naturly think about.
Percy Bysshe Shelley: The moon
AND, like a dying lady lean and pale,
Who totters forth, wrapp'd in a gauzy veil,
Out of her chamber, led by the insane
And feeble wanderings of her fading brain,
The moon arose up in the murky east
A white and shapeless mass.
II.
Art thou pale for weariness
Of climbing heaven and gazing on the earth,
Wandering companionless
Among the stars that have a different birth,
And ever changing, like a joyless eye
That finds no object worth its constancy?
The poem is talking about the moon how it look and comparing it to it envoriment and where it rise from.Like the stars and how its born somewhere else.A how the moon is compared to others and how it don't go around how other things go around it.I also intrepide it as being alone.
John Keats :Brigth star
Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art-- Not in lone splendour hung aloft the nightAnd watching, with eternal lids apart,Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,The moving waters at their priestlike taskOf pure ablution round earth's human shores,Or gazing on the new soft-fallen maskOf snow upon the mountains and the moors--No--yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,And so live ever--or else swoon to death.
This to me is talkin bout how the star is apart of nature and how they just are like sleepless.I have notice that you always see a stars a nigth and how they dont ever die out.They live forever.And are sposed to be good luck when you wish upon them.
Romantic Period
The France Revolution was a warfare.France and Europe,France had absolute monarchy with feudal rights for the aristocracy and catholic clergy.Very important way that change the way people think.England changed from agricultural society to industrial nation.England also lost her 13 colonies in North America.It made them lose more than money it also made them lose confidence.
The Industrial Revolution made it more easy to produce goods.Machines work faster and produce more than the humans.The factories were in citys so people moved to the citys.And had to crowed up in houses.Small faemers got taken over buy private owners.Lots of people lost land and were unemployed.
What I think:
I think the people that was poor was the ones in the worst shape because the Laissez-Faire philosophy had it to where they could not get ahead.The most important thing i think life was about was just trying to make it any way you can.Finding any littel work was a blessing at this time.Or being able to eat was all people probly lived for.
Romantic poets qualites:
I think most of the poets from that time wanted to express the way they feel about nature.They did not talk about trees and things like that.They had they own way of see it.Psychological is what they were impressed with.That human minds always act upon nature.They also liked to write in relating ways.They made poems where you had to think of what they was really trying to say.The poets like to speak from the heart and have passion.They made poems that said what you never noticed about life.They was knowledge of human nature.From what i learned they were realy speakers of the soul.

Summary of the Glorious Revolution
I think the reason why The Glorious Revolution was so important cause Kings James was over threw.That was the 1st time where people could relate to the U.S and use the bill of rights.I think that following one person rules is crazy and torture.I think people was more happy after useing the bill of rights too cause it stoped any possibilty of catholic monarchy.And back then Catholics were denied right to vote.But this is mainly what happend and this is why its so important.

Final essay on The secret Life of Bees
4/7/08
In the Secret life of Bees the writer Sue Monk Kidd, is not only writing about one girl she is writing about every girl with hopes, dreams and want for a better life. I think that’s something every girl in America wants. Even if their rich and have every thing they could ever dream about, nothing is never enough. And the reason why I just target women with that is because men are really not as caring as women. It bothers a girl more to see someone get hurt more than it bothers a man. Women are more sensitive and because of that we want life to be beyond the earth. Women hate the wars, the homeless, and the sick. And they want to go to a better place than this. I am sure men hate this thing too but they deal with it better.
When Lily (the youngest women in the story that’s been tortured by her father.)
And Rosaleen (the stand in mother of Lily) decided to move on with there life. They need the most help of all; they got more help from the women. They caught a half way ride with a black men going there way. The strongest black women were the people that gave them a place to stay.
I know you probably wondering what do this got to do with this book because it say nothing like that in there. But when I first read this book and Lily and Rosaleen sprung free they started look for a better life. They got to Tiburon, South Carolina and they found one. That gives me hope that maybe everyone can find that life they looking for. Sue Monk Kidd probably didn’t mean to portray this message of hope for a better life. But this is they way that I felt when I read it. Its was probably meant to be a entertaining book about a young girls life. And yet it was more than that. It was inspiration for every to stand stronger and to not have to depend on a man. Cause back in 1964 was a time where women still didn’t have the right to everything a man had. A woman was not such entrepreneurs. It made it possible to believe in a better place than where you live at, by allowing Lily to live a better life.
This book also talks about small elements of life that are looked over every day.100 bees work 5 hours a day for one drop of honey. That being said I consider honey as a blessing. And I’ am sure that every women in this book consider it a blessing to. We swallow a spoonful in the morning to wake us up and one at night to put us to sleep. Honey was the ambrosia of the gods and the shampoo of the goddesses (84). In the book you find Sue Monk Kidd comparing Bees to humans a lot. From what I read they are just like us. Its amazing that something so small can have the same feeling as some thing so big. The whole fabric of the honey bee society depends on communication on an innate ability to send and receive messages, to encode and decode information (The honey bee). Doesn’t that sound just like any other human community? If Humans couldn’t communicate then we would be no where Most important things take team work and team work takes communication. If I had to make a house all by myself it would take forever.
In this book she shows that that every little thing matters and every thing got feelings. She is a kind and caring person. This book shows hope and consideration. It has change the way I look at life. Most books can’t change a life. This is why it is so important. And should be studied by everyone.

Biography ( The secret life of Bees)
In the secret life of bees Lily the main person is living with a mean dad (Tray)and a stand in mother (Rosaleen).Lily decide for them to both run away when they both have one of the worst days of their lives.When they do, they meet some strong black women who take them in and give them a place to stay. "Well you can stay here till you figured out what you going to do."said August.
This was her 1st book and although Lily and her are more different then alike the book was very influenced by the place she grew up.The setting of the book is like the setting of the home she grew up in.For intense Honey bees really did live inside her wall.She really did grow up in a big country house ( Just like the one in the book).She had a nanny that she grew up with and like nanny in the story they both carried a snuff cup.and said some of the same thing like when Rosaleen said if you put her husband brain in a birds the Bird will fly backwards, that one something Sue said her nanny use to say about her husband.
In her real life her teacher really did influence her to write that's also what happened in the book when her teacher said that She was going to be insulting her intelligence if she wanted to go to Beauty school. She said that Lily was smart and that she could be a professor or writer.''you could be a professor or a writer with actual books to yuor credit.16"Listing to her dads stories when she was young also influenced her to write.Sue also grew up around alot of strong black women and that's who Lily in up staying with when they run a way.
Even though alot of her books have to do with the challenges and victories of women.Most of the cruel punishments she faced in the book was all made up and T-ray and her real dad was totally opposite.

1st R.
The two also grow close because of what they have to put up with.They both have to deal with liveing with her mean father T.Ray. And there nothing worse than to deal wtih a miserble man.His a father that shows no love.Its like he dont wont to see his own child happy.He wont alowe her to have a normal life.
Part of the reason why she cant live a normal life is because she dont have really no one to get girl advise from.Rosaleen didnt know much about girl like stuff being that she is a loner.The only things she could show her how to do is cook and clean.T.Ray dont talk to her about stuff she needs to know.He dont even want her to read.
I love the fact that Mrs.Henry has gave her the confidence that she could become something in life. Lily needed that, she needed something to strive for.She likes to read books so hopefully she can use her reading to get her threw the life T.Ray is taking her threw.

Beowulf dies
The hero Beowulf
The Anglo-Saxons & Beowulf
The story of Beowulf
Beowulf shows that you can depend on him.He is dedicated to all his people never trying to let them down.He gives 110% all the time, like when he is killing monsters. Or just being king.The part that stuck out to me the most is how he just came to Herot and asked the lord of the Danes to fight Gredal alone.He came to the rescue of people he didn't even know.He showed that no fear ran through his blood.
Beowulf was a real warrior he taut everyone that look up to him to have confidence and never be afraid .Everyone in this story showed loyalty to their leaders.EVIDENCE: I think i gave enough evidence in the last three question to support what i am saying in this on.
